PESHAWAR Information Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mian Iftikhar Hussains sole son Mian Rashid Hussain was gunned down by suspected militants at his hometown Pabbi, Nowshera district, on Saturday evening while his nephew got multiple injuries in the attack. According to details, the three attackers targeted Mian Rashid when he left home for an evening walk with his cousin Mian Amjad. Rashid received bullet injuries in his head. Both Rashid and his cousin Amjad, son of Mian Shafiuddin, were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, in critical condition. The attackers managed to escape from the scene on motorcycles. Police sources informed that Rashid succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, however the eyewitnesses said that he died on the spot. Soon after the tragic incident, police cordoned off the area and started search operation to arrest the killers. Mian Rashid Hussain, 30, was working as Deputy Director in Peshawar Development Authority (PDA). The news of his murder spread like jungle fire and hundreds of residents of Pabbi and ANP workers reached Pabbi Emergency Satellite Complex. On this occasion, moving scenes were witnessed in the hospital. The dead body was shifted to his house and a large number of people including Federal and Provincial Ministers and ANP office bearers visited the residence of Mian Iftikhar Hussain. The funeral prayer of the deceased will be held today (Sunday) at 11:00 a.m. Local people said that the family of Mian Rashid had no enmity with anyone, however Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain has been receiving death threats from militants. Talking to media persons, ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rashid and said the assassination of a loved one could not deter the partly leadership from raising voice against militancy and terrorism. The terrorists are using dirty tactics against our party. We will continue to condemn and fight against extremism. There would be no change in our policy towards militancy and insurgency, he added. He said that killing of innocent people and children was alien to Pakhtun culture. He said the terrorists had no religion and their only agenda was to destabilise the country. He said attacking civilians and innocent children was crime against humanity. Today they killed the son of Mian Iftikhar and tomorrow our sons can also be killed but they cannot shake our resolve to fight militancy, he added. Our monitoring desk adds: A friend of Rashid was also injured in the incident. Soon after the incident, police cordoned off the area and arrested four suspected persons.
