President seeks world's help to eradicate terrorism

ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday, once again, made a call to international community to help Pakistan build capacity to counter the menace of terrorism in all its forms. This fresh call came in the wake of Mondays brutal attack in Pakpattan at the shrine of Baba Farid (Farid-ud-Din Shakar Ganj) - who is also known as Father of Punjabi Language - wherein many devotees were martyred. The President was talking to visiting British Home Secretary Theresa May who is also Minister for Women and Equality at Presidency. He said that both the countries have a common enemy and they shared common stance to neutralise the threat posed by the extremist elements. In the same breath he also underlined the need for greater international cooperation to counter the menace. After democratic dispensation evolved domestic consensus against the extremists, the capacity enhancement has become an essential for effectively dealing with the threat of terrorism, he remarked. The President also appreciated the UKs assistance during the recent devastating floods and also in advocating Pakistans case for getting access to EU markets. According to Presidential Spokesman, Farhatullah Babar, with regard to women empowerment in the country, the President said that the democratic Government accorded top priority to empowerment of the women with special emphasis to their welfare, equal rights and to ensure gender equality in the country. He further said that the Government had declared women as beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) besides taking steps for free distribution of state lands among them in the command areas of the new proposed dams in the country. The enactment of the Protection Against Harassment of Women Bill 2010 aims at creating a safe working environment for women, which is free from harassment, abuse and intimidation, he added.
