Suicide bombing in Kohat tunnel, oil tanker blast kills 8: TTP accepts responsibility

Eight people have been killed and 14 wounded in a suicide bomber attack in Kohat Tunnel and oil tanker blast. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan have accepted responsibility for both the attacks. In the first incident a suicide bomber just after midnight detonated his explosive-laden truck in Kohat tunnel, killing eight people and injuring 14 more, government officials said. The Kohat tunnel connects the north-western cities of Peshawar and Kohat, forcing the authorities to close it to traffic. Khalid Khan Omarzai, the top civil administrator in Kohat, told the German Press Agency dpa over the phone that the truck was packed with around 500 kilograms of explosives and the bomber rammed it into the inner wall of the tunnel. Following the blast, an oil tanker outside the tunnel caught fire and exploded minutes later, damaging several vehicles. Officials at two hospitals in Kohat and Peshawar said that they had received eight bodies and 14 seriously injured people. The strategically important tunnel is located near the semi-tribal region of Darra Adam Khel. Taliban militants have repeatedly attacked the tunnel and the troops guarding it over the last three years. Omarzai said that efforts were underway to restore the route through the tunnel but it was not clear when it would open. He said transport was using an alternative route. Meanwhile Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan have accepted the responsibility for both the attacks.
