Bomb blast destroys Nato tanker

LANDI KOTAL Bomb blast in NATO oil supply tanker on the main Pak-Afghan road in Zekhakhel area turned it into a scrap on Monday. According to details, a NATO oil supply tanker bearing Registration No. K 2168 was en route to Afghanistan since Tuesday noon. After the bomb attached to the oil tanker detonated, more than forty thousand litres oil spilled over the road and the big fire engulfed the oil tanker. As a result, the main road remained blocked for the traffic for two hours. The nearby houses also were wrapped in the huge flames and smoke that were rising from the burning oil tanker, eyewitnesses and Khasadar Force sources said. The electricity supply lines were also melted down by the big fire, which suspended power supply to the Khyber areas. The political administration and FC personnel rushed to the spot, and cordoned off the area. The driver and conductor of the oil tanker were taken into custody for enquiry over the incident. The local people and Khasadar personnel reached the site after they heard the blast to extinguish the fire but it was not possible for them. Due to the unavailability of fire brigade staff, the fire got extinguished itself but after consuming the oil quantity in the tanker. Locals regretted the lack of fire brigade facility in the area, saying that such incidents happened time and again but despite that the local political administration had not taken any measures to provide the said facility.
