QUETTA A court of a judicial magistrate on Friday issued an arrest warrant for former president Pervez Musharraf and former prime minister Shaukat Aziz over the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Earlier, Balochistan police had sought Friday the arrest warrants of former army chief and president General (r) Pervez Musharraf and ex-prime minister Shaukat Aziz from the court of a judicial magistrate in the murder case of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Nawab Bugti was assassinated in a military operation on August, 26, 2006 in the mountainous Bhamboor Range in Kohlu district following two days long battle. After denial by police to lodge any complaint of the family, Balochistan High Court had directed the police to register FIR against the nominated persons. A case was registered in Dera Bugti town in October, 2009 on the application of his son Jameel Akbar Bugti against former president Pervez Musharraf, ex- prime minister Shaukat Aziz, Balochistan former governor Owais Ghani, ex-chief minister Jam Mohammad Yousaf, the then interior minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao and home minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani. The court has already issued the arrest warrants of former provincial home minister Shoaib Nosherwani. However, written statements by three accused Sherpao, Jam and Owais Ghani were submitted before BHC, stating that since they were part and parcel of civilian setup and operation was launched by army, so they had nothing to do with the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti. The arrest warrants were issued by the court of judicial magistrate VI Faisal Hameed on the request of CID. The BHC has been expressing its displeasure over the slow pace of progress in murder case of Baloch leader. The court will again hear the case on November 1. Agencies add: Adnan Kasi, a lawyer representing Bugti's elder son Jamil, told AFP, "Today the judicial magistrate in Quetta has issued an arrest warrant for both Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz". The arrest warrant would be sent to the federal government to take steps to present the accused in court, Kasi said.
