PESHAWAR - The NWFP government Saturday announced to regularise its all contract and ad hoc employees, besides exempting cinema houses from the entertainment tax for a period of five years. Briefing the media persons after the 15th provincial cabinet meeting, the NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that host of issues were discussed including regularisation of services, posting and transfer policy, disposal of huge quantity of timber being illegally cut in Kohistan district and amendments in the Frontier Women University Act 2004. The meeting was held with NWFP Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti in chair. The cabinet meeting decided that all contract and ad hoc employees in NWFP would be regularised. It will be decided later that regularisation of these employee would either be made through Ordinance or Act of the provincial assembly, he said. The decision would benefit around 5,000 employees in various departments, he said. He further said the meeting decided to formulate such an effective policy to avoid the appointment of employees on contract and ad hoc in future. To compensate the cinema industry in NWFP, which is on the verge of collapse due to continued militancy, he said the cabinet meeting decided to exempt the cinema houses from the entertainment tax for five years. It would help to boost the cinema business and provide cheap entertainment to the militancy-hit masses confined to their houses due to terrorism for the last few years, he said. The minister said the businesses of CD and cable operators had been grown up and had a pivotal role to play in the society, so the cabinet decided to devise a mechanism and put it on the right track. For formulation of mechanism, he said a committee would be established to promulgate law to stop obscenity and vulgarity in the CDs as well as to make it reformative for society. The law and information departments were also directed to review the matters regarding CD and cable operators and make rules and regulations for the both, he added. Over the proposal of two holidays in a week, he said the provincial government had conveyed to the federal government that it was not acceptable to it. The committee on posting and transfer policy presented its devised criteria according to which the tenure in an area was reduced from three to two years while the tenure in unattractive areas was also lessened from two to one and half years, he said. Similarly an officer would spend only one year in dangerous areas, he added. The cabinet also made it compulsory that Public Service Commission would have a female member with an aim to encourage women folk to play their role in the progress of the province. He said the cabinet also approved the sale of confiscated wood measuring 2.1 million cubic feet in district Kohistan with imposing fine on each foot.
