Seven dead in attack on pilgrims bus

QUETTA As many as seven people including four pilgrims and an Iranian citizen were shot dead in an incident of sectarian killing in Quetta on Friday. Banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi accepted responsibility for the killings. The tragic incident occurred at Sariab Road within the jurisdiction of Sariab Police Station when unknown armed assailants sprayed a volley of bullets on the passengers who were waiting for Taftan-bound bus at the office of a transport company. As a result of massive firing, seven people, including four pilgrims hailing from Shia community, and one Iranian national were killed and another wounded. The deceased were going to Iran via Taftan border and they were waiting for a bus when they were ambushed by armed assailants, Sariab SP Fareed Barech said. Police quoting eyewitnesses said four assailants who came in a car, entered the transport company and opened indiscriminate fire on the passengers with sophisticated weapons before escaping from the site. Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the site and moved the victims to Civil Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex Hospital. The deceased were identified as Syed Qalb Hussain, Arif Hussain, Syed Muhammad Raza and Faheem Abass, Asmatullah, Mazullah and one Iranian citizen Abdul Nabi Reyki. The pilgrims are stated to be residents of Punjab. It appears to be an incident of sectarian killing, a senior police officer said, adding that police were conducting raids to arrest the culprits. However, no arrest was made so far. Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani strongly condemned the killings of innocent persons and ordered for immediate arrest of the culprits. Meanwhile, banned outfit Lashkare-e-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for the killing of seven people.
