Strike brings rail service in Balochistan to standstill

QUETTA-Angry workers of Railways went on strike that caused delay in all up and down trains for over eight hours on Thursday against the killing of a Railway employee alongwith three others on Wednesday night. The workers forcibly closed all offices on Railway station Quetta and announced to suspend the train services for up and down country that caused delay in half a dozen trains from Quetta to Punjab, Sindh and Frontier province while four trains from up country to Quetta. Some three trains from up country have been halted on different Railway stations in Balochistan. Meanwhile, enraged residents of Railway Colony and adjoining areas blocked Sariab Road, Joint Road, Sabzal road and Zarghoon road as protest against killing of four persons. Protestors burnt used tyres in the middle of the road, creating hurdle for the vehicular traffic. Angry residents also took out a protest rally from Brewry Road and marched on various roads. The protesters gathered in front of Chief Minister Secretariat and kept raising slogans over police failure to bring law and order under control and arrest the terrorists involved in target killings. Railways officials and other people of the area also participated in the protest rally. Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani assured the protestors that strict security initiatives would be taken for protecting the life and property of the people irrespective of cast and creed. He said that planning would be made to hunt down those involved in the killing of innocent people. He claimed that Baloch Liberation Army or Baloch Republican Army was not involved in the target killing rather those elements were involved who wanted to destabilise PPP govt and they would be soon unveiled. He said that these elements could not be escape from the clutches of law as they did not deserve any concession who were playing with the lives of innocent people. The Chief minister said that to him, all ethnic groups living in Balochistan were equal and his govt would take all proper steps for the security of their lives and property. He also announced Rs. 0.2 million each for the heirs of all four deceased who were killed in the incident.
