PML-N finalises two-pronged strategy

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalised its strategy to tackle the situation arising after the lifting of Governor's rule in Punjab thus paving way for the formation of the PML-N government in the province. TheNation learnt from credible sources on Monday that PML- N has worked out a flexible plan to deal with the tricky situation by taking into account various factors that matter in this regard. "There are two emerging scenarios the party leadership has kept in mind to deal with the situation. First, if the Supreme Court restores the PML-N's pre-February 25 status by granting interim relief; and second if PML-N is asked to form its government sans Mian Shahbaz Sharif as Chief Minister," the sources said. They explained that in case the Supreme Court restored the pre-February 25 status of the PML-N-PPP coalition government in the Punjab, the two parties alliance would remain intact. In the latter case, the PML-N would have to prove majority to elect its Leader of the House in the Punjab Assembly in its sitting tomorrow (April 1). According to sources, the PML-N may not seek the PPP help in the new situation. On the role of the PML-Q forward bloc in the given situation, the sources said that they would support the PML-N in the election of the new Leader of the House. Sources further said that the PML-Q forward bloc members might elect their own parliamentary leader ahead of the Punjab Assembly meeting. When asked who were the PML-N's potential candidates for the slot of the Leader of House, the party sources said there was no list of candidates prepared by the party to nominate its candidates for the Leader of the House. They were of the view that since it would be a stopgap arrangement until Mian Shahbaz Sharif gets legal relief from the Supreme Court, one of the party loyalists could be put in the vacant place for the time being.
