Shahbaz, Kayani discuss rehab, security issues in flood zone

ISLAMABAD Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Saturday, met Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at the Army House and exchanged views on matters relating to rehabilitation and reconstruction in the flood-hit areas and security situation in the province. Sources in the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) informed that there was nothing special about the meeting and termed it a routine interaction wherein the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif had appreciated the role played by the armed forces first in rescue and relief operation besides their role in the rehabilitation activities. The overall law and order situation in the province with special reference to the countrys role in war on terror also came under discussion and it was the consensus view of both that all the political forces should forge unity to achieve desired results in the war on terror. The security issues and the problems being faced by the law enforcement agencies also came under focus and it was agreed upon in the meeting that the pro-active approach must be adopted to counter terrorists. It was further agreed that a mechanism of intelligence sharing should be spruced up further so that the movement and activities of the miscreants could be brought under surveillance. The CM Punjab also exchanged views with Army Chief with reference to investigation process into the terror related incidents at Punjab and reiterated his resolve that PML-N would continue its support to efforts being made by the armed forces for elimination of terrorism and extremism. Army Chief assured that the way the armed forces had participated in relief work in the flood-affected areas they would extend cooperation and help to the provincial and federal governments in rehabilitation and reconstruction work as well.
