Pak kabaddi team named for Asia Cup




LAHORE – M Javed will lead 15-member Pakistan kabaddi team which will take part in the 2nd Asia Cup which will begin from today (Thursday) here at the Punjab Stadium.
Talking to the reporters here Wednesday, Javed said: “Our team is well-balanced and combination of experience and youth and we hope to fetch encouraging results in the event.”
Terming the Asia Cup a tough event as Asia’s top kabaddi teams are taking part in it, he said: “It is going to be a challenging event as we will be facing a strong challenge from our arch-rivals India and other teams which include Iran and Afghanistan.”
To a query, he said: “Pakistan team has been dubbed as favourites in the event and urged the team members not to underestimate the strength of any opponent as any weaker opponent can upset a much-fancied rival.”
The other team members are Afzal Butt, Obaidullah, Babar Waseem, M Irfan, Akmal Dogar, M Shafique, Kashif Riaz, Shafique Butt, Sajjad Gujjar, Rashid Ismail, M Mansha, M Maltloob, Asif Ali, M Aslam Dogar and Khalil Ahmed while the team officials are Tahir Whaeed Jutt (coach) and Chaudhary M Asghar (manager).
Meanwhile, Indian kabaddi team also arrived the city via Wagha border to take part in the event. The teams from India, Iran, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal and hosts Pakistan are featuring the premier Asian activity.
