Sohail Khan, Aizaz Cheema eager to prove a point

KARACHI (Agencies) - The rookie Pakistan seamers, Aizaz Cheema and Sohail Khan, are pleased after being named in the squad to tour Zimbabwe next month and have vowed to use the opportunity to cement their place in the national team. The 31-year-old Cheema, who was a marked performer in the recently concluded domestic season of Pakistan, said that it was a valued opportunity for him and will make the best out of it. This is a valued opportunity for me, Cheema said. Im desperate to perform given that I have ample domestic-level experience and enjoying optimum fitness. My aim is maintaining accuracy while bowling fast. Cheema, who missed out on the tour of West Indies due to fitness problems, said that being a 31-year-old mature man he understands the responsibility that comes with playing for the national side. He further added that the opportunity to play for Pakistan is something which is not easy to get and that a lot of hard work is required to get to that point. Pakistan announced a relatively new-look 16-member squad without likes of many seasoned players including Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz and Abdur Rehman. The other two member of the pace attack are Junaid Khan and Sohail Tanveer. Sohail Khan, who has a solitary Test and four ODI appearances under his belt, has not made the Pakistan squad since 2009. He said that in the absence of experienced fast bowlers he will try to prove his strengths. The seamer reckoned he was better prepared this time around and will make the best out of his second coming. I think my debut came a little early and I failed to impress on the chances that I got, said Sohail while talking to the media reporters. It was a good lesson for me though and I learnt a lot about the game, my fitness, my ability as a fast-bowler and helped me gain overall control of my bowling, he added further. Pakistan will play a warm-up game, a Test match, three One Day Internationals and two T20 Internationals against Zimbabwe in their tour, starting September 1, 2011.
