LAHORE – Pakistan players displayed superb kabbadi skills in the exhibition match of the 2nd Asia Kabaddi Cup by defeating Asia XI in great style here at the Punjab Stadium on Thursday. Both the teams played well and gave tough time to each other but Pakistan players showed their supremacy at the dying moments of the match and won it by 31-22. Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain inaugurated the mega event. The colourful opening ceremony was witnessed by a huge crowd of kabaddi lovers. The organisers also arranged a musical show for the spectators at the opening ceremony in which different singers amused the audience with their performances. In their first match of the event, Pakistan team showed their class and defeated Iran by 60-41. Though Irani players also played well and kept on earning points yet Pakistani players, for whom the game is cultural asset, did not allow their opponents to play freely at the last half and won the match with a good margin 60-41. Teams from India, Iran, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and hosts Pakistan are featuring in the premier Asian activity. Indonesian team was also supposed to take part in the mega event but they refused to appear in it at the eleventh hour. Due to non-availability of Indonesian team, the format of the event was changed and now the matches are being played on league basis instead of pool basis. Three matches are being played every day while the final of the event will be held on November 5. Pakistan will take on its arch-rivals in last match of the league stage. Today (Friday), Iran will play against Afghanistan in the first match while Pakistan face Nepal and India will take on Sri Lanka.
