Coaching staff, not players, behind downfall

ISLAMABAD - Mohsin Hasan Khan termed Pakistan defeat against West Indies as disrespectful and totally unacceptable.
Talking to The Nation on Wednesday, Mohsin said: “There was no game plan witnessed during the entire match. Pakistani bowlers bowled well in the first 15 overs, but in next five overs, premier bowlers Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal were hit all over the park. Instead of bowling Yorkers, both bowled a lot of loose balls and short deliveries.”
“Sammy and Bravo had set a game plan and they survived initial overs and then went on for power hitting. Hafeez should have talked to his bowlers to control the situation as his duty is not to be a silent spectator. Had he utilized his options accordingly, West Indies could have scored in between 120 to 130 but Hafeez failed to handle the situation,” he added.
Mohsin further said: “Even 166 was not a huge mountain to climb. Keeping in mind conditions and strong Pakistani batting line up, I must consider Ahmed Shahzad unlucky and ready to give him some margin, as it was a perfect Yorker which was too hard to handle. What was coaching staff doing there as when Pakistan lost two early wickets, it was their responsibility to change the batting order? Instead of sending Shoaib Mali, Sohaib Maqsood should have been promoted. Umar Akmal could have been saved along with Afridi, as both of them could help the country achieve the target.”
“I can't believe the way Pakistani batsmen threw away their wickets. It was very poor shot selection by the batsmen, which gifted wickets to West Indian spinners and that too at regular intervals. Pakistani batsmen also set a new world T20 record, as four players were stumped. What were they trying to do and what was the purpose of having an army of coaching staff when they can't handle the situation?
When asked about Hafeez' place in the squad, Mohsin replied: “Frankly speaking, if Hafeez was not a captain of the team, he had no place in the playing XI. He is no doubt a talented player, but as a senior player and especially as a skipper, he must be a role model for other players and lead the team from the front but instead he disappointed the entire nation.”
When asked about Moin Khan's performance as coach, the ex-coach said: “Only PCB chairman Najam Sethi can answer this question, as he is the best person to judge the performance of the entire coaching staff and justify their roles. He must give fair verdict, whether he is satisfied with the coaching staff or not?
To a query regarding taking the responsibility of Pakistan team as head coach, Mohsin stated: “I am always ready serve my country which gave me name and fame across the world. In my era, it was the same team which performed exceptionally but I don't know the reasons behind such a downfall in its performance. When players are down, then it is the duty of coach and team management to lift their shattered morale.”
