Svindal wins again in Lake Louise super-G

LAKE LOUISE - Aksel Lund Svindal won the men’s alpine World Cup super-G at Lake Louise on a course the Norwegian has made his own. Svindal clocked 1min 28.53sec to beat Austrian duo Matthias Mayer and Georg Streitberger by 0.24sec and 0.38sec respectively. Svindal notched his 22nd World Cup victory, surpassing Kjetil Andre Aamodt’s Norwegian record. “I think it’s cool,” he said of the record. “It is something to know that my idol is at home and that I beat his record.” Svindal notched his sixth win in here, five of those coming in the super-G. Asked if the venue should be re-named “Lake Lund” Svindal said he’d have no problem with that, although he noted that the resort was already known as “Lake Lindsey” by fans of American Lindsey Vonn, winner of 14 World Cup races here.–AFP
