ZTBL set up T20 Cup final clash with SNGPL
 
 
 

LAHORE - Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) will vie for top honour against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in the Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup here at the Gaddafi Stadium today (Tuesday).
In the first semi-final on Monday, M Rizwan’s unbeaten knock of 60 runs steered SNGPL to thumping nine-wicket triumph over Pakistan International (PIA). Put into bat first, PIA lost their opener Sarfraz Ahmad cheaply at 1-3 in 1.2 overs. The airmen kept on losing their wickets cheaply until the experienced Shoaib Malik came to the crease and resisted the SNGPL bowlers with the will. Malik played responsible innings of 43-ball 42 runs laced with four sixes while he as ably assited by Adeel Malik (18), Sheharyar Ghani (14) and Faisal Iqbal (11). Imran Ali and Imran Khalid were the main wreckers of PIA’s innings with two wickets each and restricting PIA to 107-5.
SNGPL replied PIA with great authority and achieved the target for the loss just one wicket in 16.5 overs. Rizwan played excellent unbeaten knock of 54-ball 60 runs studied with five fours and two sixes and he was ably assisted by Ali Waqas made unbeaten 41-ball 28 runs. Najaf Shah took only wicket for the losers. Rizwan was declared the man of the match.
In the second semi-final of the day, a powerful batting performance by Yasir Hameed (61) and brilliant bowling by Junaid Zia (5-31) powered ZTBL to the final. ZTBL enjoyed a flying start and even when Imran Nazir fell for 18 their momentum did not slip. Sharjeel Khan celebrated his national call-up by smacking 41 but Haris Sohail (7) did not have a good outing. Yasir Hameed and Shahid Yousuf’s unbeaten 92-run stand, off 50 balls for the fourth wicket, powered ZTBL to a formidable 178. Yasir slammed 61 while Yousuf added 44.
Abid Ali and Ahsan Ali’s stand of 81 proved to be the only source of resistance. Junaid Zia bowled brilliantly and picked up 5-36. Ahsan was top scorer with 43. Junaid was declared man of the match.
