Shakeel takes lead at Punjab Open Golf


LAHORE - Shakeel Sayyaz topped the first round of the three-day Bank Alfalah Punjab Open Championship which commenced at the Gujranwala Golf Course on Friday.
At the end of the first round, Shakeel played a round of excellence to emerge as the leader as he achieved birdies on holes 4, 6, 10, 13 and 14 and managed regulation pars on 12 holes. Only one blemish on the seventh hole resulted in a bogie but it did cause any dent in the aggregate because of the birdie deluge (five in all).   Notable amongst the other top players are M Nazir (Islamabad) 69, M Munir (Islamabad) 69, Talat Ijaz (Gymkhana) 69, Sunny Masih (Gymkhana) 70, Ansar Mehmood (Islamabad) 70 and Karrar Hussain Changezi (Quetta) 70.
The championship offers prize money of Rs 1.5 million. As per rules of the event, the participants attaining top 40 positions will get cash prizes in accordance with the standard percentages allocated for the purpose.
