LAHORE - A special bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the Punjab Police and Prosecution Department to submit case record of Zubair alias Naik Muhammad, alleged mastermind of attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
The bench headed by Justice Shahid Hameed Dar also directed the police to produce the accused before the court on next date of hearing. The bench passed the orders while admitting for regular hearing the petition of Punjab government challenging bail granted to Zubair.
Earlier, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad told the bench that respondent Zubair was a prime accused in the attack and they had arrested him with the help of CCTV footage. He said that the police had ample proofs of his involvement in the attack but the Anti-Terrorism Court granted him bail without going through the facts.
He requested the court to cancel the bail granted to Zubair and issue orders for his arrest. A three member review board of The Lahore High Court had on Tuesday last declined from extending the detention of Zubair. However, the government on Wednesday morning again took him into custody and claimed that the release of the accused could create law and order situation in the country.
