LAHORE – Chief selector Iqbal Qasim, in consultation with the national selection committee and on the request of team management, has recommended the inclusion of Sohail Tanvir in the ODI squad for Pakistan and Sri Lanka One-day Internationals series.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has approved the replacement.
Tanvir, now, will fill the vacant slot in the squad which was available after Nasir Jamshed was dropped out due to injury before the tour.
The left-arm bowler showed form during the opening two Twenty20’s which is the main reason behind his inclusion for the 50-over format of the game.
Iqbal said that Sohail has earned the spot after his tremendous effort with the ball during the opening matches of the series.
“In view of the request from the team management and keeping in consideration the current form of Tanvir. The selection committee has decided that he may be retained for the one-day series in Sri Lanka,” he said.
Tanvir was declared the man of the series during the two-match T20 series. Pakistan lost the first match with 23 runs but came back strong with a convincing 37 run victory. The two sides are set to play the first of five-match series at Pallekele on Thursday followed by three test matches. Sohail Tanvir has captured 55 wickets in 43 ODIs throughout his career and his current form can make a significant difference in Pakistan team’s bowling attack.
