CFP elects Tariq as new president

LAHORE - Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) general body elected Tariq Rasheed Khan as its new president in its meeting held here on Wednesday.
The representatives of provincial chess associations and affiliated departments attended the meeting held under the chairmanship of CFP senior vice president Abdul Aziz Khan. The general body also approved the future plans for development unveiled by the new president after his election.
In his acceptance statement, Tariq, who hails from the province of Sindh (Karachi), thanked all the members for the trust bestowed upon him and vowed to take all the measures for the development of chess and welfare of the players. He assured that he would ensure the transparency and follow the merit to run all the affairs of the federation. He also added that a detailed road map would be unveiled soon.
CFP secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza briefed the participants about the preparations of Pakistan chess team for World Chess Olympiad in August. He also disclosed that talks were underway with World Chess Federation for a promotional tour of World’s top woman chess player to Pakistan to encourage the women chess players and to stir the interest for the game in Pakistani universities. He said that the project would be done in coordination with Higher Education Commission (HEC).
