LAHORE - Agha Faisal from Lahore clinched the Sultan Khan Memorial Chess Tournament title by securing six points out of seven. Irfan Aslam and Ahmad Naeem secured second and third positions respectively. A total of 42 players entered took part in two-day activity to relive the memory and accomplishments of great player Sultan Khan (1905-66). The oldest active chess player in Pakistan, Dr Tahir Anees, 72, also took part in the event and impressed the spectators with his good standings. Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza distributed trophies and cash prizes among winners at the closing ceremony. He also announced that the CFP would hold chess tournaments in memory of other great players and national champions from the era of 1947 up to 1983. Staff Reporter
