ISLAMABAD - Thanks to a brilliant hat-trick by Riffat, Balochistan United made the biggest upset of the championship as they beat last year’s runners-up Diya Club 3-1 in the Eighth National Women Football Championship quarterfinal here at Outer Football ground Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday.
Hajra Khan of Diya provided them with an early goal as she scored in the fifth minute, but Balochistan United had other ideas in store as Riffat scored a well deserving hat-trick to oust Diya Club. In the second quarterfinal here at Jinnah Stadium, Wapda beat Vehari United 3-0. Aqeela opened the scoring for the winners in the 16th minute, before Rafia scored a brace inside one minute to assure a comfortable victory for Wapda.
The semi-finals will be played tomorrow (Sunday). In the first semi-final, Young Rising Star will take on Balochistan United at 3:30pm while in the second semi-final, Islamabad will play against Wapda at 4pm.
