OUR STAFF REPORTER ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Falcons began their title defence with a comfortable 50-27 win over Crushers on the opening day of the 5th Capital Cup Basketball Tournament here at the Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex, says a press release. In other matches, Rim Rockers outplayed Rawalpindi Falcons 56-17 and Islamabad Rhinos outplayed CYSO Dolphins 56-25. Islamabad Falcons controlled the proceedings from start to finish and cored 16 points in the first quarter and eight in the second to lead 24-7 at the halfway stage. The defending champions continued and steadied the tempo of game after the break while Crushers' fought back in the fourth quarter to score 14 points. Omar Iftikhar top-scored for Falcons with 14 points while Ammad Raja, Sumair Butt and Javed Bangash helped in with eight points each. M Waqar was Crushers' leading player with 12 points while Usman added eight. Rim Rockers proved too good for the young Rawalpindi Falcons. Hasan Saifullah was the best player of the match with a contribution of 21 points. Mohsin Saifullah and Asad Bhatti also had a good game with 11 and nine points respectively. Islamabad Rhinos outclassed CYSO Dolphins in another lop-sided match. Saad Bhatti (15), Omar Khan (12) and Hamza Javed (6) were the main players for Islamabad Rhinos while Shumail Ishfaq (11), Shakal Jamal (5) and Sarosh Gohar (4) were the leading scorers for Dolphins.
