KARACHI - Zenobia became the new Sindh Women’s Chess champion when she grabbed the top perch on the points table with five and half points here on Monday late evening at the CDGK Kashmir Road Complex.
Zenobia defeated Nida Siddiqui and Ghazala in her run up to the title.
Tariq Khanzada (Anis Hussain School-Hyd) won Sindh Junior under-18 championship as he remained unbeaten in the contest. Hunain and Sheroz Khan won second and third places respectively. Tariq Khanzada beat Hunain in the final.
Earlier in the Swiss league session, four boys qualified for the last knock-out phase, unfortunately the point’s table leader Sheroz did not maintain his supremacy and he was up-set by Hunain; who has represented Pakistan in World School Chess Championship Under-15 category in Poland Last year.
In Master Men Category Raees Ansari upset Favorite of the championship FIDE Master Omer Khan in the fifth round. Meanwhile, NM Haseeb Ahmed maintained himself at the top table by securing 5 ½. National master Haseeb Ahmed is the only player leading the points table closely chased by Master Wahid Hussain (Hyd), Imtiaz Ahmed, Jahangir Ahmed and Faraz Saleem.
