LAHORE - The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) will organise a training camp here from May 15 to prepare the team for two back-to-back major boxing events, Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow in July followed by Asian Games to be held in South Korea in September.
PBF secretary Iqbal Hussain Tuesday said: "These are two very important events and we will be starting our preparations at Lahore with a camp to be attended by 15 boxers selected based on their standing and performance in the national and international events home and aboard.”
He said the national camp would start soon after the conclusion of Wapda Inter-Unit Boxing Competition in which top boxers of the country were taking part. “We will soon be releasing the names of the boxers who will be attending the camp which will be run by coaches Ali Bukhsh, M Tariq, Tariq Gujjar and Majeed Brohi."
The PBF official said six boxers each would be representing the country in the Commonwealth and Asian Games and the team management would comprise three officials for both the competitions.
To a query, he said it was a positive move of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to extend support to Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) led by Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan for sending the Pakistan's contingent to the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
"Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry is also taking interest in resolving the issue of the genuine POA-recognised by the IOC and OCA and there is a dire need of creating close coordination between the POA and the PSB in order to serve the country's sports in a better way and to enhance Pakistan's image at the highest forum of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)," he added.
"With POA, IPC and PSB working together, Pakistan sports will enter into a new era which will ensure a better future of country's sports and sportsmen in years to come," he concluded.
