HEC clinch Rugby Sevens title


LAHORE – Higher Education Commission (HEC) defeated Police by 22-14 to win the 21st Rugby Sevens Championship title. Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) president Fawzi Khawaja, coach Rizwan Malik and UCP director sports Arshad Sattar distributed trophies among the winners. Both teams played well but in the end, HEC played some better rugby and won the main final. From HEC, Waqar, Khurram, Ali and Abubaker and from Police, Naeem and Khalid Bhatti scored one try each. For the third position, Punjab thrashed Balochistan 17-5 while for the fifth position, Fata thumped KPK 33-0. Khalid scored two tries while Naeem and Tajmal scored one try each. Earlier in the first semifinal, Police beat Punjab in a thrilling encounter while in the second semifinal, HEC outclassed Balochistan 24-0.–Staff Reporter
