KARACHI - Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim called for induction of youngsters and new players in the second Test starting in Harare today (Tuesday).
“I think the tour selection committee should seriously consider making a couple of changes for the final Test. Shan Masood should be included in place of M Hafeez because the T20 captain looked unfit during the first Test and it would be in Pakistan’s interest to give him rest,” said Qasim on Monday. Hafeez had scored just 64 runs in eight innings of the past four Tests this year, including only 43 runs in three matches against South Africa.
He said besides Shan Masood, paceman Wahab Riaz should also be included in place of Rahat Ali, who picked only one wicket in the first Test. Qasim praised the outstanding performances of Younus Khan and Saeed Ajmal and captain Misbahul Haq. “Pakistan staged a good fight-back after conceding first innings lead to Zimbabwe,” he said. He expressed the hope that team would maintain the momentum in the second Test.
