PUNE (India) - World's four leading all-rounder of yesteryears when approached by this correspondent expressed their unwillingness to act as mediators to resolve the long standing spat between the two Ians Chappell (Australia) and Botham (England). Interestingly, all these four all-rounder Kapil Dev (India), Imran Khan (Pakistan), Richard Hadlee (New Zealand) and Gary Sobers (West Indies) have found place in Botham's autobiography "Head On" as being the best all-rounder the game has ever produced. "Chappell and Botham have been travelling around the world. They are not the babes and why should I interfere in their personal matter", expressed Kapil Dev on being suggested that a man from the neutral country can bring them together over a glass of beer. "I have no time to interfere in their matter. It has been going on for so many years and am not aware what the fight is for", said Imran Khan from Islamabad. It may be recalled here that in 1996, Ian Botham and former England teammate Alan Lamb sued former Pakistani star all-rounder Imran Khan for alleged libel. Botham and Lamb had lost the case subsequently. "It is not possible to bring them together if they have not come together for so many years. I fail to understand why they have not been talking to each other. I don't want to be a peace-maker", Sir Garfield sobers said from Barbados. "I am not concerned with their fight and am not interested in working as their middle-man", said Sir Richard Hadlee from Christchurch. Apparently Ian Chappell is uninterested in bowing down to Botham. Repeated requests for his side of story and suggestion of appointing an arbitrator were unanswered by him. Ever controversial, Botham was suspended briefly in 1986 for smoking cannabis and was accused of racism and ball-tampering by Imran Khan. He also fell out publicly with other players, including England opener Geoff Boycott and Somerset captain Peter Roebuck and more recently Australian batsman Ian Chappell, which culminated in a punch-up in an Adelaide Oval car-park during the ongoing Ashes series.
