LAHORE- Chilly weather and overcast conditions could not even prevent the passionate youth from entering the grounds to show their skills in the union council level of the Punjab Youth Festival 2014. On Friday, around 134,000 players participated in various sporting events where more than 40,000 returned home as victorious. In Lahore’s Iqbal Town, which was the most crowded town, the events of PT show, horse dance, players march past, tug of war, cricket and motorbike skills show were held. MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar was chief guest at the occasion while a large number of people from all walks of life along with Haji Afzal Khokhar were also present there. In 30 UCs of Ravi Town, 917 players took part in different events in which 158 were victorious. Football event was won by Bashir Ali XI while Safeer Ali XI won the cricket event. In 23 UCs of Data Gunj Bakhsh Town, out of 472 players, 136 were the winners. Subhan XI beat Khawar XI to win cricket event. Total 35 UCs of Shalimar Town saw participation of 6,377 athletes among which 280 bagged the top honours. Shah Barkat XI beat Yahya XI to win football final while Nabeel Ali XI won cricket event. In 37 UCs of Samanabad, 4918 players were took part and 259 were declared winners. In athletic events, Khurram won the first position while Barkat was second. Hammad XI won cricket event. In 35 UCs of Nishtar Town, out of 7686 participants, 222 were successful. In 3 UCs of Gulberg Town, 101 were seen in action and 31 remained successful. Among 108 players of 3 UCs of Wahga Town, 20 athletes returned home joyous. In 31 UCs of Aziz Bhatti Town, 178 players out of 1000 had smile on their faces.–Staff Reporter
