ISLAMABAD - The drama to take over Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) headquarters continues as both the parties are making tall claims and presenting their sides of stories regarding this issue.
The egoist brawl between two retired generals supported by hordes of political, civil and military bureaucrats and former opportunist players has been depriving players a chance to play at international circuit. They badly missed Solidarity Games and Youth Games in China while other features in the coming days are still in jeopardy. No one knows what will happen in the coming days and one thing is becoming quite clear that an IOC ban is looming large on Pakistan and players’ destiny will be decided only in a short course of time.
Does it matter in this Mulaqat-te-Khudad-i-Pakistan? Guess not! So much has happened here in our beloved country, these things don't matter. We are insensitive, complacent to whatever situation that emerges. But should somebody not be hanged high for causing a national shame of not enabling the country's players to bid and represent at international forum under ‘green flag’. Such vital lost but is anybody bothered.
We didn't participated as both the POA claimed to be legitimate and entries were not sent. One POA is supported by government, PSB, some judicial interpretation and present military sports directorate set up while the other POA by former generals regime lost sting due to change in government continue to be sports number enigma.
History reveals that bunch of idiots by misfortune somehow rises to higher offices through putrid system by discrimination, favoritism, sycophantism resulting in garnishing wrong aptitude persons. These cluster than do everything within their ambit of power to perpetuate their interest in the name of nationalism and even Islam in our context.
Masses in general have suffered, system have rotted, regression is the card of the day due to such so-called pseudo office bearers which blackmail people, misguide public portraying false image and reap benefits for personal aggrandizement.
Gen Sahi and Gen Arif what did they achieve by this ongoing tussle. Every day they are in news each scoring points over other. Now they are washing their dirty linen at the IOC. Did Gen Arif really made any difference in his decade long tenure, why does he want to clinch to this seat, he has nothing better to do, were he trained in military to run sports body, is he at war?
Does Gen Sahi think he will make a difference, what experience he got, how long he is going to clutch on military directorate support for personal worldly desire, because of his players cannot participate in international features, he is creating parallel bodies, pressuring IPC ministry and PSB through his political connections. It won't be long and there will revolt against him if ever he succeeds as the POA president, history repeats itself.
IPC minister Syed Riaz Hussain Pirzada must think on the lines that masses and players wanted him to resolve this issue, which is getting out of hands with each and every passing day. He should have been above board, but alas he did what others did in the past. He became a party to ongoing affray and lost all his respected neutral status. He should have shown statesmanship, called both generals and tried to find out a midway, and the best solution to this saga was either to let Gen Arif continue, as he has won February 2012 elections and Gen Sahi had accepted it and as things settled without affecting any national/international features talked sense to these persons for amicable settlement.
IPC secretary Fareedullah Khan and DG PSB played negative role rather than to try to resolve things. They encouraged parallel bodies, imposition of ad-hoc on bodies, deprive players to participate, and they would be remembered in history as such. Formally encouraging these tactics will become norms in time to come and nation will bear this sour fruits due to them as stakeholders. Remember, it won't be long before they all will have to go out of their offices.
Prime Minister must intervene in this issue as he himself is a sportsman and knows well how to resolve the knotty issues. Arbitrate now, as IPC ministry/PSB failed. Better be late than never! Is anybody listening, or this problem will remain a wild goose chase?
