Islamabad - Pakistan top junior player Tayyab Aslam and Former Asian junior individual champion Ali Bokahri stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the World Junior Individual Championship in Namibia on Tuesday.
In the first fourth round match, Tayyab brushed aside French Aquguste Eussourd 3-0 in just 36 minutes. Tayyab wasted very little time to settle down in the first game and took it 11-6. In the second game, Tayyab committed few mistakes before winning it 11-7 while in the third game, Tayyab lost just 3 points to take the game 11-3 to set pre-quarterfinal against Egyptian Omar El-Atmas.
In the second fourth round match, Ali dispatched off South African Laurance Kuhn 3-0 in 31 minutes. Ali quickly settled down in the match and won the first game 11-4, second game 11-6. The third game was a treat to watch for the pack to capacity crowd as the game kept on swinging from one way to another. Both the players fought for each and every point before Ali finally prevailed and took the game 11-9, thus moving into the pre-quarterfinals.
These results by both Tayyab and Ali clearly indicated that it was the players’ own performance and it was nothing to do with Punjab Squash Association (PSA) and nothing to do with exceptional coaching of Gogi Alluddin, as both of his players were sent packing. It is the high time the PSF must stamp out their authority rather than getting blackmailed by some certain associations or individuals. The federation must dictate terms and make all the calls.
While in the third match, Israr’s run was halted by brilliant Egyptian M El-Gawarhy 3-0, losing the match 11-5, 11-8 and 11-4 in only 28 minutes.
