World badminton body recognises Iftikhar-led PBF

ISLAMABAD - Badminton World Federation (BWF) recognised former information Minister KPK Mian Iftikhar Hussain-led Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF).
The decision came under the light of directions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which had already accepted the national federations affiliated by the POA headed by Gen (r) Arif Hassan. The BWF also corrected its webpage appearing the name of Mian Iftikhar Hussain as the PBF president with contact person Naqi Mohsin.
Talking to The Nation on Wednesday, international badminton coach Raziuddin Ahmad lauded the BWF verdict and said: “It is a welcoming news for the national shuttlers and it will help flourish badminton events in the country which were blocked since April 2011 due to the dispute of parallel badminton federation aroused by ex-federal agriculture minister Nazar M Gondal along with so-called secretary Imtiaz Gill.”
“This dispute was just for the fight to grab designations under the supervision of government and the PSB which destroyed the future of many talented players, even national championship was not organised for the last three years,” Razi added.
“The case of the parallel federation discussed in national courts on different level without any conclusion and finally taken up by the IOC whose charter is fully against the interruptions of government in sports federations at any level,” he asserted. He said the efforts of PBF svp Naqi Mohsin were admirable in the restoration of the actual federation. “Further, the services of acting secretary Tayyab Sohail and Punjab Badminton Association president Adil Abdullah Rokhri, son of late PBF secretary Aamir Hayat Rokhri, regarding promotion of badminton are really appreciable. After this decision of IOC, now Pakistan will take part in the Commonwealth Games 2014 to be held in Glasgow,” Razi concluded.
