Pakistan blind squad named for West Indies, England series

LAHORE - The Pakistan Blind Cricket Council has announced a 15-member team for twin tour of the West Indies and England. Addressing a press conference, PBCC chairman Syed Sultan Shah the team was selected for a talented bunch of 33 players called for trials from all over the country. He said that the team will initiate its tour of the West Indies on August 1 and play three ODIs and a Twenty20 match. The tour also includes a warm-up game. After that the team will reach England on August 10 and play three ODIs and a T20 till August 18. He said that the team was selected by a three-member selection committee including Mohammad Jamil and Imran Ali Khan. He further said that a national level tournament had been arranged for the team at Abbottabad from July 6 to 10 to facilitate the team to the likes of the England conditions. The tournament will be followed by camp training for the selected players at the same venue. He said that the tours are part of the team's preparation for the next year's World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in England and Pakistan will be defending its title. He said that Abdur Razzaq has been retained captain of the team while Zeeshan Abbasi is his deputy for the series and they are likely to be retained to their places for the World Cup also. He further said that all the selected players of the team are contracted and the A category cricketer is getting Rs 10,000 monthly while B category is receiving Rs 8,000 and C is Rs 6,000. He further informed that the PCB is going through a crunch phase and after they were asked to cut its budget, the Board has given them a checque while money for the remaining three to four months is still to come. However, the PBCC has cleared all its cricketers dues with that amount. The selected team: Totally blind (B1): Amir Ishfaq, Mohammad Shahbaz, Mohammad Waqas, Zafar Iqbal, Idrees Saleem. Partially blind (B2): Abdul Razzaq, Zeeshan Abbasi, Masood Jan, Muzafar Ali, Ashraf Bhatti, Ghulam Mustafa. Partially sighted (B3): Anees Javed Mohammad Fayaz, Nisar Ali, Mohammad Jameel. Reserves: Mohammad Ayaz (B1), Hafiz Arslan Javeed (B2) and Syed Adnan Ahmed (B3).
