ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s new squash hope M Asim Khan, who won back to back titles in Doha, Qatar, said Sunday said his hard work has started to pay dividends.
He said he was working very hard and wanted to break into world's top 10 within two years. Attributing his success to his training under Rasheed, Waheed and Punjab Squash Association head coach Gogi Alauddin, he specially was grateful to Asif Khan, who was on his side during the two international junior events success.
Asim said his confidence level was improved by his victory in the final of the Qatar Junior Open Squash Championship against a highle experienced opponent Farzad of Iran and defeated him in straight sets to win the first major junior title.
He said he did really enjoy his next event the Doha Junior Open Squash Championship very next week and I was full of confidence and reached final without any trouble. “I was enjoying one of the best period of my life. My confidence level was sky high. I was up against Suleman Hashmi also from Pakistan. It was a classic final which I succeeded to win in four games.” Asim said there is no dearth of talent in Pakistan and only need is to provide players with maximum opportunities. “We need PSA events to get much-needed international exposure. Our players had shown number of times that they can beat any opponent and can break into elite group of the PSA players. To achieve this task, federation can play a very significant role. All the talented players should be provided with equal opportunities,” Asim concluded.
