Rizwan double ton salvages improbable draw for Okara

LAHORE Promising youngster Rizwans double century helped Okara carve out an unlikely draw against Multan in the Regional Inter-district Senior Cricket Tournament at Gymkhana ground Okrara. Batting first, Multan scored 365 all out in 70 overs with Junaid Iqbal hammering 189 in 227 balls. The openers punished Okara bowlers and gave Multan a stand of 146. Yasir Butt added 52. Though the Multan tail failed to wag, they still managed to put a massive total on the board. Asadullah got five wickets for 91 and he was ably assisted by Ali Moazzam who got four wickets. Okara innings was in tatters as they lost their first three wickets for just 16 runs. Rizwan Haider held the innings together and with unbeaten 202 off just 130 balls not just pulled out an improbable draw for his team, but also registered his name in the record books in the domestic cricket. He got assistance from Ghulam Ali (38) and Tariq Nadeem (65). Adnan Khan got three and Akhtar Shahzad took two wickets. Okara cricket association president Mian Munir has felicitated his team. Okara region selector Altaf Shah said the region is full of promising cricketers and with proper grooming, some youngsters are capable of providing a healthy back up pool.
