Pakistan, Vietnam 1-1 at Davis Cup

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Vietnam Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-II tie stood at 1-1 on first day, after Aqeel Khan gave Pakistan 1-0 advantage but M Abid lost his match. Winning of the doubles match will almost ensure Pakistan to win the particular tie. Aqeel played the first singles match against Quang-Huy Ngo, as he won the match in straight sets. He won the first set 6-0, second 6-4 and the third one 6-3 to give Pakistan early edge. Abid played the second singles against Tghien Nguyen, as he was preferred over Pakistan No 2 Yasir Khan. The move failed to materialised as Abid was beaten comprehensively in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-0. Aisamul Haq Qureshi, who reached Vietnam but was rested for the first day, will be seen in action alongside Aqeel in today’s doubles match.–Staff Reporter
