Hamza Shahbaz inaugurates hockey stadium


RAWALPINDI - MNA and Chairman Punjab Sports Board Hamza Shahbaz Sharif announced a sum of Rs 66 million for the installation of floodlights and lying down of Astroturf in the newly constructed Shehnaz Sheikh Hockey Stadium at the inaugural ceremony on Sunday.
Hamza promised to release funds during the current month. He also laid down the foundation stone of Sohail Tanveer Cricket Academy to be established at Muslim High School ground, adjacent to Hockey Stadium. The half of funds for academy would be released in this fiscal year and remaining amount would be allocated and released in next fiscal year.
Hamza praised the setting up of hockey and cricket stadiums for the people of Rawalpindi. He also praised MNA Hanif Abbasi and gave him all the credit for establishing of these stadiums. These projects were completed because of personal efforts of MNA Hanif Abbasi and that too in such a short span of   time is really a wonderful achievement by the MNA.
Earlier an exhibition hockey match was also played between Rawalpindi District Hockey Association and IESCO hockey teams. IESCO won the match 1-0. MNAs Hanif Abbasi, Malik Abrar Hussain and Malik Shakeel Awan, while MPAs Raja M Hanif and Malik Ghulam Raza, prominent traders, former hockey players, Olympians Shehnaz Sheikh and Saleem Shirwani, Sohail Tanveer were also present.
