Pakistani NGO donates baseball goods to US school

LAHORE - PR -Pakistan Society of Peace (PSP), a nonprofit organization, working exclusively to promote peace the world over, has sent gifts of baseball kits worth US $ 20,000 to PS DuPont High School in Delaware (USA). The students of this school were unable to sustain the athletic programme for lack of funds.
This was revealed by Almas Jovindah, president, Pakistan Society for Peace, in a press release. He said that to promote people-to-people contacts, they initiated with Rotary Club of Wilmington and Rotary Mozang Lahore, in Oct 2010, when a 7-member delegation stayed with the local families in Delaware for one week. This led to a confidence building and helped a lot to remove misunderstanding on both sides with a feel that a direct communication and interaction could play a vital role in bringing the people of the two countries closer.
He revealed that so far three delegations from Pakistan had visited Delaware in three years. Recently, in January 2014, the PSP hosted 10 members of DLD (Delaware Lahore Delhi Partnership for Peace) delegation for seven days in Lahore. This delegation consisted of diversified personalities ranging from CEO of World Trade Centre, professors from Delaware University, city government of Wilmington, dean of CabCalloway and people from art and education under the leadership of Kathleen Meyer. Friendship now expanded to school collaborations, art and culture exchanges. Almas said there was also a huge participation and support from schoolchildren on either side. It was heartening to see schools in Wilmington participating in awareness seminars about Pakistan at CabCalloway.
“We always wanted to reciprocate these adorable kids who are ambassadors of peace and better understanding which they reflected through their actions,” he remarked.
Almas Jovindah, president, Pakistan Society for Peace, said that during their recent stay in Delaware, they visited PS DuPont School along with Cindy Dwyer from Wilmington Rotary and found that the students needed baseball kits.
“Jovindah, Dr Sarfraz Warraaich and other office bearers approached Khawaja Shahzad Gull and Anjum Tanveer Khawaja, directors of Sialkot-based KM Ashraf and Sons (Pvt), one of the best manufactures of baseball uniforms in the world. They immediately agreed to donate the gift consisting of 26 uniforms of the highest quality with PS DuPont’s logo on each of them.
They are exclusively designed with a theme to pay homage to the legacy of the school’s building,” the press release said. “This initiative is very positive, timely, replete with patriotic spirit and valuable as well as Pakistan-friendly. Our country, our society and our people are regarded the world over as those who always seek financial assistance. The NGO has tried to dispel this impression by dispatching sports goods to a school in America,” he concluded.
