ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan pace bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz is all set to launch academy for bidding talent in Islamabad soon after Eid vacations.
Talking to The Nation on Tuesday, Sarfraz said: “It is my national and moral duty to provide this country future talent as I owe everything to my beloved country, which has given me name and fame. I have managed some space in Islamabad to launch an academy and open trials will be conducted in which players from across the country will be invited and the selected players will be provided free of cost coaching and exceptional training under the watchful eyes of former greats. Besides producing fast bowling, we will groom spinners, batsmen, and wicketkeepers and for this purpose, I will invite Abdul Qadir, Aamir Sohail, Zaheer Abbas and board’s local coaches.”
Sarfaraz said: “We have divided players from age groups 12 to 19, and we will emphasize on each and every selected player according to his ability. If we find someone perfect for fast bowling, we will work on him and take good care of those players as Pakistan is in dire need of fast bowlers, an area which was our specialty in the past, but the PCB did not give attention to this particular field. We had the pairing of the great pacers like Fazal Mehmod and Khan Muhammad, Sarfraz Anwaz and Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis and last paring of Shoiab Akhtar and Umar Gul but now Pakistan is struggling to find a perfect fast bowling pair that is the main reason the team struggle hard to get early wickets.”
He said Irfan although bowled well in the beginning but he was clearly looking off colour and struggling after bowling first spell just because of his extra length and weak legs. “Pakistan team needs a bowler who may bowl longer spells unlike of Irfan who can hardly bowl three overs, that is why he is used in shorter spells which is of no use for the team,” he added.
Sarfaraz blamed incompetent persons for declining the cricket team’s fortunes as these incompetent persons are responsible for the whole disaster which Pakistan cricket has been facing these days. Pakistan team, which had immense amount of talent and world class players, by no means deserves to be sitting at No 6 spot in the ICC Test team rankings. The non-technocrats, sitting at the helm of the PCB affairs without having basic knowledge of the game, are major cause of cricket decline as they have been holding the offices due to their political connections not because of their cricketing expertise.
