ISLAMABAD - Usman Khan Shinwari Monday said there was no dearth of talent in the country and the talented cricketers should be given a fair chance to represent the country.
Speaking at the press conference held at National Press Club on Monday, Usman said: “Fata needs playgrounds and gymnasiums to give country world-class talent. The region has great potential but the only need of the hour is to provide these talented youth playgrounds where they can polish their talent and serve the country in the years to come.”
Usman said he was quite fortunate to get a chance so early in his career. He described his final performance against SNGPL as the highlight of his short career. “The way I bowled against the SNGPL side was amazing while the most memorable day of my life was when I got a call from the PCB for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. My parents, friends and well-wishers were very happy and I am grateful to the PCB and the selectors for posing confidence in my abilities. I will not disappoint nation and bounce back in style.”
“I belong to Landi Kotal where I used to play my club cricket from Khyber Wing Cricket Club. Haji Taimoor Afridi, Wajahat Ullah Wasti and Fasih Ullah helped me a great deal. I represented Abbottabad Region in the national U-19 championship. I also played Ramazan T20 Cup in Karachi before joining ZTBL for first class career. I am also very thankful to Abbottabad Region president Aamir Nawab for his continuous support,” he stated.
Usman accepted he was under enormous pressure during his international debut, but seniors bucked him up and helped hum in getting normal. “I didn’t perform well in the T20 internationals, but given a chance in One-day internationals and Tests, I will not let the team and country down and give my 100 percent and play a major role in helping the team achieve new heights.”
“Wasim Akram is my ideal and he regularly helps me and gives me useful advises. It is my dream to represent Pakistan for a long period of time and it is my request to government to construct grounds in tribal areas and Fata, as the country will get loads of players from this region,” Usman concluded.
