National Women Squash C'ship from Oct 15

PESHAWAR Former World Champion and Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association Qamar Zaman Thursday said that the province for the first time would host National Women Squash Championship to be held from October 15-18 here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex. The squash association would hold the national event in the province that would involve female squash players from across the country, he said while addressing a press conference here at Qayum Stadium. Qamar said that sports activities must go on irrespective of any situation and that was the reason the association decided to hold different squash events to promote the game. The event will carry prize money of Rs 50,000. Flanked by Ihsanullah Khan, Senior Vice President of the association, Qamar Zaman, who is also Vice President of Pakistan Squash Federation, said that efforts were made to find out sponsorship for the events but yet no one has agreed to sponsor the events. He said in the current year the association has planned various tournaments for both junior and senior categories of male and female players. The first event, he said, will be starting from September 26-30 with National Age Group Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15, which will carry Rs 50,000 prize money. The National Under-15, Under-17 All-Pakistan tournament will be commencing from October 22-26, followed by Inter-District Junior Squash Championship from Nov 1-5. The Ladies Inter-District Championship is scheduled from Nov 15-18 and Senior National Squash Championship, carrying Rs 0.1 million prize money will be held from December 2-7. Qamar said invitations would be sent to Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Owais Ahmad Ghani and Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti and Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah to grace the opening and closing ceremonies.
