LAHORE - Wasim Gul of Sargodha has won the Punjab Chess Championship 2013 title. Abdul Majid of Faisalabad won the second position and Hamid Hassan of Lahore earned the third. Other notable players of the event were Mudassar Iqbal, Rana Tanvir, Fauzan Ullah, Amjad Hafeez Bajwa, Ahmad Awais, Rizwan Durrani and Khalil Ur Rahman Butt. At the end, a colorful prize distribution ceremony was held where Punjab Chess Association (PCA) SVP Farman Aziz was chief guest and distributed trophies and cash prizes among the top 10 players. Pakistan Chess Federation (PCF) secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza lauded all the players and organisers for the successful completion of the event. He hoped that with the efforts of the PCA, the sport would prosper amongst the youth and women. –Staff Reporter
