The Nation thrash The News
PESHAWAR - The Nation (Nawa-i-Waqt Group) outclassed arch-rivals The News (Jang Group) to qualify for quarter-final for the cricket tournament organised by Khyber Union of Journalist. In 10-over game, The News team was restricted to only 65 runs for the loss of nine wickets as the strong bowling attack of The Nation forced them on defensive game. Even the top scorer of The News scored only 10 while the top scorers of The Nation were Hameedullah 30, Nader Buneri 20 and Salman Khan 19. The target was easily chased by The Nation in the sixth over. Hamidullah was declared man of the match. Despite lack of practice, The Nation players demonstrated excellent performance while The News spared 15 days for regular practice to qualify for the final, however, they were kicked out from the tournament.–Staff Reporter


 


PTCL Inter-media Cricket Tournament
ISLAMABAD - Raza-ul-Haq of Nai Baat registered first hat-trick of the PTCL Inter-media Cricket Tournament to help his team thrash Express Tribune by nine wickets. Three matches were played on Friday here at G-6 ground. In the first match, Express Tribune, batting first, scored 71-9 in 8 overs with Kamran Yousaf scoring 21. Raza registered first hat-trick of the event as he took 4-19. In reply, Nai Baat achieved the reached in the seventh overs losing just one wicket. Waleed made 34 and Azhar Shah 28. In the second match, NNI beat The News by 52 runs. NNI made 128-2 and in reply, The News could score 76-7.In the third and last match of the day, Daily Express thrashed Ausaff/INP by nine wickets. Ausaf/INP scored 59 in allotted overs which Daily Express achieved in 6.1 overs.–Staff Reporter


 


Army win National Netball title
ISLAMABAD – Army routed Higher Education Commission (HEC) 27-17 in the final to clinch the 13th National Men’s Netball Championship title here at PSB Sports Complex on Friday. Army maintained their supremacy throughout the play and enhanced their lead with the timely addition of goals against HEC which failed to counter the speedy moves and aggression of the soldiers. Abdul Haq, Zahid Iqbal, M Khursheed and Usman Basheer were the top performers of Army. In a classification match for the third place, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) beat Police 34-27. HEC chairman Prof Mukhtar Ahmed and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera were the chief guests on the occasion and distributed trophies, medals and certificates among the teams, players and officials. –Staff Reporter


 


Laiba face Fozia in KP Squash final
PESHAWAR - Laiba Ijaz and Fozia Khan will vie for top honour in the final of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Girls and Boys Age Group Junior Squash Championship here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Friday. It will be the third consecutive final the two will be playing. Earlier, Laiba won two finals while Fozia secured victory once. In the first semi-final, Laiba defeated Naima Khalid by 2-1 as the score was 11-5, 8-11, 11-7. Laiba lost the second set before winning the first but she staged a strong comeback and won the third to book berth for final. It was the second semi-final in which Fozia recorded victory against Bareera at 2-1. Fozia lost the first set 10-12 but she came back strongly and won two consecutive sets 11-7, 11-6 to reach to the final which will be played today (Saturday).–APP
