ISLAMABAD - Pakistan chief selector and former captain Rashid Latif believes that Pakistan can only trap India with pace bowling not with the spinners thus breaking the jinx of World Cup defeats.
Pakistan will play India on March 21 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. However, Pakistan has never beaten India in World Cup matches either ODIs or T20Is.
Talking to a private news channel, Rashid said: “We should look to build our Twenty20 team on specialist players. Everyone can play any format of the game, but you should make sure, there is no one better than the player you select," he said.
He said Pakistan should try the same team in their next warm-up match against South Africa on Wednesday as they will field. "By now, Pakistan should have known Indian team's combination," he said.
Rashid said he saw Shoaib Malik in the side against India as he was a steady player. "I will either go for Sohail Tanvir or Bilawal Bhatti in place of Junaid Khan to boost batting options," he said.
Rashid said M Talha should be played against India as he did a great job against them in the Asia Cup.
"No point playing Zulfiqar Babar against India as we already have a lot of spinning options," he said.
Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq said: “We should not compromise quality over quantity. Pakistan should have proper planning for the match against India. We should look to attack, but not like how Afghanistan did against Bangladesh," he said.
