KU win All Pakistan Inter-varsities Chess


LAHORE – Karachi University (KU) won the title of the All Pakistan Inter-varsities Chess Championship held in Faisalabad at the University of Agriculture (UoA) sports auditorium. Although Punjab University (PU) chess team had much better ranked players in the field but KU won the match by 2-1 and took the trophy for a second year in a row. The championship was organised by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and was participated by a record number of 24 universities from across the country. Although this was a team event played on knock out basis, yet the most impressive individual performances came from Awad of KU, Arqam of PU and Syed Ahmad Ali of PIEAS. The best three individuals were also selected to represent HEC in the upcoming 29th National Chess Championship to be held at Lahore.– Staff Reporter
