Nomi tames veteran Malik in IC tennis


KARACHI- Anisuddin Khan - Former Davis cupper Nomi Qamar may have left the national tennis circuit but he proved here Sunday that he still is a force to reckon with when he put up gritty show to beat experienced former Davis cupper Rashid Malik in two contesting straight sets in the pre-quarter finals of men’s singles of IC Trophy National Ranking Tennis at Karachi Gymkhana courts.
Nomi, who is known for his expertise of cemented courts, won the match 7-5, 7-6 to reach the last eight of the event. Top seed and favourite Aqeeel Khan, his brother Jalil Khan and promising Zuhair Raza also booked their places in the last eight.
Aqeel beat Ali Murad 6-2, 6-0, Jalil accounted for Saad Mubarik 7-6, 6-3 and Zuhair defeated Ahmed Choudhry 6-7, 6-1, 6-3. In the ladies singles first round Iman Qureshi beat Hania Naveed 6-0, 6-0 and Maheen Dada defeated Neha 6-1, 6-1.
