LAHORE – Punjab Squash Association (PSA) is holding second Asian Master Squash Championship from September 3 to 6 in which all the member countries of Asian Squash Federation (ASF) were invited and six countries have confirmed their participation in the event.
Tournament Director Karamat Ullah Ch said here at a local hotel on Thursday. PSA secretary, DCO Lahore, event organizing company MD and former squash greats Gogi Alauddin and Zarq Jahan were also present on the occasion.
India, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Nepal, Singapore and Malaysia confirmed their participation while worlds best squash players including Jahangir Khan, Jansher Khan, Qamar Zaman Khan, Kiwi Ross Norman, Canadian Jonathan Power, Australian David Palmer, Jeff Hunt, Chris Dittmar and Egyptian Ramy Ashour were also invited to take part in the event.
“The event will be played in nine age groups including 35-39, 20-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 76 plus categories. The format of the event will be best-of-five and every player will play two matches in a day.”
First phase of this event was held in Sri Lanka in 2010 and now the PSA will hold the event in the city.
DCO Lahore Noorul Ameen Mengal said: “I am also a squash player and want to pay back to the game so in this regard, I will try my best to boost the game across the province and will be available whenever my services would be required.
“Arrival and participation of international players in the event will be helpful in the promotion o f squash in the country and when our youngsters will see them in action they will not only learn a lot from them but also get inspiration to do well at national and international level,” Mengal concluded.
