SLC likely to relieve two key officials

PUNE (India) Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) boards two key officials, CEO Duleep Mendis and Head of the Marketing Charith Senanayake, will be relieved from their duty by the end of this month, it was learnt here. According to sources, both have been asked to put their papers down. The former Sri Lanka captain, Mednis, now working with the board for almost 10 years, and Senanayake, 47, are unlikely to beg contracts for the new term, once their contracts expire on August 31. On the recommendation by the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), the employees of the board of above 55 years have been asked to step down. The Honorary sports minister, C B Ratnayake, can overturn their orders but according to the sources close to the former right handed batsman, he is in mood to be associated with the present set up. There is a long procedure and cabinet paper work needs to be done in case Mendis wants to continue, the minister, while speaking to this scribe from Colombo said. His son is staying in Australia and he may live with him there for a few months and sometimes in Colombo, a source close to Mendis said. He may return to SLC only if the new management, not before next years World Cup, comes in action, the source further added. Duleep Mendis will carry the bitter memories of the present establishment, which removed him from the 2011 World Cup organising committee. In fact Mendis was involved in the organising of the 2011 World Cup from its inception and it was he who prepared the initial World Cup bid document on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket. Sadly, he is being sidelined by the management from all major decisions. The board may appoint Rochana Jayawardena, a man who was involved as tour organising secretary to replace Charith Senanayake. Jayawardena is very close to the present secretary, Nishantha Ranatunga and known to the chairman, DS Desilva, it is learnt here.
