LAHORE – Bank of Khyber (BoK) Peshawar clinched the Eighth State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Cup Inter-bank Super Series Cricket Tournament title after defeating SBP Karachi by 30 runs in the final played here at the Bagh-e-Jinnah cricket ground on Monday.
Batting first, Saeed Khan and Wallayat Khan fifties helped BoK to finish 156-8 in 20 overs. Bilal Manzoor bagged three wickets for 30 runs while Naeem Khan and Khuram Shahzad took two wickets each. In reply, SBP Karachi were all out for 130 in 18.2 overs. Wallayat from BOK was declared man of the match for his brilliant all-round performance while M Ehsan of SBP Karachi was declared man of the series.
SBP Governor Yasin Anwar was chief guest at the occasion and distributed prizes among the players and teams. Former Test cricketer Intikhab Alam presented a shield to the governor. He also lauded the efforts of the SBP governor and SBP sports committee for promoting cricket in the country.
Managing Director, SBP BSC Qasim Nawaz presented the vote of thanks while Chief Manager SBP BSC, Lahore Shabbir Ahmad Awan presented the welcome address.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said: “The SBP is trying to obtain a cricket ground here in the city for regular cricket activities in the city. The SBP is planning to organise an under-19 cricket tournament for which modalities are being worked out by the SBP sports committee. An inter school cricket tournament was organised in Karachi and the same will continue to be organised every year. State Bank is also making arrangements for holding inter school tournament for boys here in the city as well. All these activities will help in boosting cricket across the country.”
