Mariam helps Islamabad Whites win final
ISLAMABAD - Mariam Hasan helped Islamabad Whites thrash Islamabad Greens by 131 runs in the final of the 8th Regional Inter-District Women (Seniors) Cricket Tournament 2014 here at Marghazar Cricket Ground on Thursday. Mariam Hasan once again showed her mettle and slammed stylish 80 studied with nine fours while Soniya Ilyas added 46 hitting four fours and Rabail Khalid made 40 to help Islamabad Whites post 219-4 in 50 overs. Rabia Arshad took 2-47. In reply, Islamabad Greens were bundled out for a meager 88 in 39.4 overs. Saba Sameual made 19 while Fariha and Sonia made 14 runs each. Hina Shazad grabbed five for 19 and Anosha Shafique took two for 27. Mariam Hasan was declared player of the tournament. Former Test player Sarfraz Nawaz was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.–Staff Reporter
National Volleyball Championship
ISLAMABAD - PAF, Navy, Army and Wapda reached the semifinals of the 47th National Volleyball Championship 2014 after beating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals played at POF Sports Complex Wah Cantt on Thursday. In the first quarterfinal of the day, PAF managed to win in straight games, but it was not easy task as POF boy' gave PAF a real run for their money before going down fighting. PAF took the first game 25-10, second 25-19 and third 25-22. In the second quarterfinal, Navy outclassed KPK 3-0. Navy took the first game 25-8, second 25-19 and third 25-20. In the third quarterfinal, Army beat Education Board 3-0. Army won the first game 25-11, second 25-13 and third 25-18 while in the fourth and last quarterfinal of the day, Wapda thrashed Punjab 3-0. Blind T20 Cup from March 28
ISLAMABAD - The National Bank Twenty20 Cup of the Blind will be staged at two different venues across the country from March 28 to April 3. Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) secretary Bilal Satti said a total of 12 teams would be participating in the mega event including Islamabad, Bahawalpur, Quetta, Multan, Karachi, PBCC Young Star, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Azad Kashmir, Lahore, Okara and Faisalabad. He said that the matches would be played in Islamabad and Peshawar. "In Islamabad the matches will be played at F9 ground and PF ground E9. The Islamabad team will be captained by Zeeshan Abbasi," he added. “The semi-final will be played on April 2 while the final on April 3. A total of 30 players will be selected from this mega event for the World Cup to be held in South Africa," he concluded.–Staff Reporter
Academy of Martial Art win Club Judo
ISLAMABAD - Academy of Martial Art, Qayyum Stadium, Peshawar Thursday won the Inter-Club Judo Tournament 2014 organised by Shabab-e-Mili and KPK Olympic Association (KPOA). KPOA secretary Qamar Zaman and KP Judo Association chief Masood Ahmad were the chief guests. It was decided the best performers would be part of upcoming camp for International Judo Championship at Nepal starting from April 11-14. In 35kg weight category, Hamza secured top position, followed by Salman and Waqas. In 40kg category, Hassan was first, Salman second and Rasheed third. In 50kg category, Hadi took first, Usman second and Akbar third position. In 60kg category, Qari Rasheed was first, Safi Ullah second and Bashir third while in open weight category, Imran Badshah was winner, Ahmed Zia second and Wajid Ullah third. –Staff Reporter
Annual Sports Gala of BSS held
ISLAMABAD – The Annual Sports Gala of Beaconhouse School System (BSS), PWD Branch was held here. A melodious harmony of the aerobics by girls of KG and Class I, superseded by a daring moment when the pre-nursery students came out for their races, especially the race in daddy's shoes and the race with a shopping trolley. The cheerleaders cheered the tiny ones throughout the occasion. The sprit and momentum of the primary athletes during their individual class races were worth watching. The toughness of the young athletes during the tile breaking was an eye-catching moment. The day concluded with parental participation in races in the sports gala. Mothers participated in the musical chair whereas fathers had a baby's walk. The position holders were given awards at the end.–Staff Reporter
